Emergency aid to Sulawesi, Indonesia
[This was a one-time donation]
In September 2018, the Indonesian island Sulawesi was struck by a massive earthquake, followed by a tsunami. This resulted in almost 2,000 deaths and more than 4,000 people are still missing. But even the people who did survive the disasters are in horrible situations, as more than 70,000 homes have been destroyed or damaged. Thousands of people were injured and around 80,000 had to be displaced. All of the victims of these disasters are in need of emergency aid to be able to restart their lives as soon as possible.
Giro 555, a Dutch cooperation of 11 aid organisations who work together when a disaster like this happens, set up a campaign to collect money for the victims in Indonesia. The 11 organisations each contribute in their own way by offering emergency goods, such as tents, food, hygienic kits, mattresses, cash, clean water, blankets and many other things. But multiple services have also been made available, offering shelter, medical and forensic experts, social workers to help families reunite or to play with children, and much more.
Our aim is to contribute to improving the welfare and environment of countries where LC Packaging is directly or indirectly active. LC Packaging is indirectly active in Indonesia via production partners. We believe that no one should be without a family, not have clean water or food and not have a roof over their head. Therefore, we are more than happy to support Giro 555 in helping the inhabitants of Sulawesi by providing them with the help they are in desperate need of.
In December 2018, LC Supports Foundation donated €5,000 to this crisis. In addition to this donation, the foundation raised another €672 via our Green Heart Campaign 2018.
